The Just Film Festival comes to a close today, Saturday April 1st, and it ain't
no joke.

This Film Festival is put on by Amnesty International, so the films are all
about finding justice in the civilized world.

The Festival closes in the evening with two outstanding films: Mali Blues and
The Queen of Ireland at the Vancity Theatre
<https://www.viff.org/Online/just-film-festival-2017> in Downtown Vancouver

Mali Blues <https://www.facebook.com/MaliBluesFilm/> is truly spectacular in
terms of sound and sights. If you've ever been to sub-Saharan Africa, this is a
must. If you're a Blues fan, this is a must. Mali is the homeland of the blues
and you'll see why in this film.

But this film is about justice, and using music to achieve it.

In the north of Mali, Islamic extremists have banned music: all of it.

But that won't stop these musicians. All Malian, all of different ethnicity and
heritage, all united by the Blues.

The music will take you away; the message will bring you back. And you'll feel
the triumph as if you were front and centre at the Festival!

The Queen of Ireland <http://www.imdb.com/title/tt4868972/> is a all about Panti
Bliss, who also goes by the name Rory O'Neill. Panti campaigns tirelessly in the
run up to the Irish referendum on Gay marriage. The film looks at Rory's life
in conjunction with the recent history of gay and lesbian rights in Ireland.
Remember, this is the country that sent Oscar Wilde to prison, simply for being gay.

If you get this early enough, the Festival runs all day, starting at noon, with
shows at 2 and 4pm as well.

The whole schedule can be found here <http://justfilm.ca/films-2017/>.

Come out of the rain and check out these excellent docs, including another film
by Twyla Roscovich!

Did you know that in Scandinavia...
--> there are laws protecting children from all forms of spanking and bullying,
even from parents
--> these laws do not imprison or punish parents but instead raise awareness
(http://www.empathicparenting.org)
--> the elderly are able to remain at home thanks to programs that provide free
meals, free transportation, and free care/
