Here's another stunning Japanese animated film that your children (and you!)
will love.
This film takes full advantage of its medium: with time altered and age never
changing. You may not even notice until the end...but when you do, you'll
appreciate the twist.
Anna is a troubled, civilized child whose pain shows itself through asthma.
She's polite, hard at working and innately social like all of us but when her
breathing won't allow her to function fully, she is sent to her Aunt and Uncle's
place out of the city.
Her Uncle may be the only Japanese character in the film and the setting is
gorgeous. And soon, Anna's troubles will all be explained.../When Marnie Was

Most screenings are in Japanese with English subtitles, but if you go on the
nights that the film is dubbed in English, other than a few bows that may seem
unusual, you'd never know that the animators were Japanese, because all the
characters are whiter than white. Studio Ghibli are astonishing accomplished
animators, but they are also amazingly consistent in only creating perfectly
white characters, be that as it may.

Did you know that in Scandinavia...
--> there are laws protecting children from all forms of spanking and bullying,
even from parents
--> these laws do not imprison or punish parents but instead raise awareness
(http://www.empathicparenting.org)
--> the elderly are able to remain at home thanks to programs that provide free
meals, free transportation, and free care/
