/Monsoon <http://www.viff.org/theatre/films/fc8452-monsoon>/ is new documentary
from Canadian Sturla Gunnarsson that examines how the entire Indian
sub-continent waits with baited breath each year for the life-giving Monsoon.
As you'll see, it provides enough rain to make one place the wettest on the
planet, flooding cities and rivers routinely.
But the film also shows how it can - and does - miss other parts of South Asian,
mystifying the experts and allowing death to reign over large areas.
But what struck me the most was how all the people of a land of such diversity
of cultures now resemble Americans. In dress and speech, the subcontinent is
turning into a sub-empire, despite the work of Gandhi and millions of others to
remove the British.
This documentary is beautifully shot and easy to follow and understand,
utilizing many high tech aids to help us along.
But this year's /Monsoon <http://www.viff.org/theatre/films/fc8452-monsoon>/ has
brought them more than rain; it is undermining thousands of years of culture
under the guise of science and tech but primarily through the force of global
economics.
And it seems that Indians are helpless on both accounts.
See for yourself, as this /Monsoon
<http://www.viff.org/theatre/films/fc8452-monsoon>/ is just about to start at

Did you know that in Scandinavia...
--> there are laws protecting children from all forms of spanking and bullying,
even from parents
--> these laws do not imprison or punish parents but instead raise awareness
(http://www.empathicparenting.org)
--> the elderly are able to remain at home thanks to programs that provide free
meals, free transportation, and free care/
