So just how does one find /All the Time in the World/
<http://www.viff.org/theatre/films/fc8434-all-the-time-in-the-world>? I had no
idea growing up in civilization; the idea certainly was enticing but the clock
just kept ticking away...

Until I moved off the grid and out of the "rat race." And surprise, we're not
the only ones!

Yukon filmmaker Suzanne Crocker switched careers from rural family physician to
filmmaker in 2009 and her family joined her with buckets of enthusiasm.
Bringing their three children (ages 10, 8 and 4) to spend nine months living in
a small cabin with no road access, electricity, running water, Internet, TV or
phone was a joy in itself, which my own daughter can readily attest to.

My daughter was fully engrossed by the film as it shows Suzanne's family
canoeing their abundance of stuff down river to a cabin. We laughed with the
stars when they realized that all that stuff just isn't needed when you're out
of civilization and back to life. How could that be? Well, when kids joyfully
dig a new outhouse hole (or in the case of my daughter, clean out the chicken
coop), it becomes beautifully obvious.

If I wanted to use a civ-meter to judge them, I'd accuse them of cheating since
the father continued his connection with the outside world (and see if you agree
with my judgment that it shows in his being the most careless and reckless).
Not to mention the fossil fuels and electricity for the cameras...

But instead, I simply want to acknowledge that they did this at all. It
certainly allowed a first time filmmaker to learn her craft well (the
cinematography is excellent). However, the kids are the stars of this show,
honestly expressing their joy and love for this "bush" life. So much so that
upon their imminent return to Dawson City, one even shrieked her fear of what
she saw and heard.

Sadly, the parents overruled the children's needs and desires, like most of us
do in civilization. But at least these parents discovered what makes their
children tick, and it certainly isn't the sound of a clock.

Did you know that in Scandinavia...
--> there are laws protecting children from all forms of spanking and bullying,
even from parents
--> these laws do not imprison or punish parents but instead raise awareness
(http://www.empathicparenting.org)
--> the elderly are able to remain at home thanks to programs that provide free
meals, free transportation, and free care/
