And of course I take not only my bike to VIFF, but a bicycle and parental bent
to the festival, so here's the first taste of what's in store for you this year...
Marinoni <http://www.viff.org/festival/films/f12263-marinoni>
This fun to watch doc focuses on Giuseppe Marinoni's life with bikes: as a
builder and a racer. He started racing in Italy and has since become an iconic
frame builder in Quebec.
At 75, he now tried to become the world record holder for distance on a track
during 1 hour. The record was 34.3 km and his aging body and toxified body
(welding filled his lungs every day) will be pushed as hard as a competitor can.
Linking his record attempt with the bike that he build for Canada's most
successful cyclist ever (Jocelyn Lovell), brings out the horrifying story of yet
another motorized vehicle creating tragedy.
But the incidental insights this film brings out were the highlight for me. A
cranky Marinoni softens as we go, but his self-labelled foolishness shows just
how deep our childhood wounds will push us if we don't look inside and continue
to look outside for respect and recognition. Bringing his family history into
the picture certainly provided more insight, but the scarcity of his wife may
have avoided others.
Overall, an enjoyable ride in so many ways, even if you don't use bikes. But if
you do, you'll want to catch this one...if you can!
Marinoni <http://www.viff.org/festival/films/f12263-marinoni> plays on Oct 2 at
9:15 pm in the Vancouver Playhouse
<http://www.viff.org/festival/venues/vancouver-playhouse>
and on Oct 4 at 4:00 pm in the Vancouver Playhouse

Have fun at the Fest...and if you ride, maybe you'll see Giuseppe at the bike rack!

Did you know that in Scandinavia...
--> there are laws protecting children from all forms of spanking and bullying,
even from parents
--> these laws do not imprison or punish parents but instead raise awareness
(http://www.empathicparenting.org)
--> the elderly are able to remain at home thanks to programs that provide free
meals, free transportation, and free care/
