*For 12 years*, Mohammad Mahjoub, a torture survivor, has been *detained without
charge* *in Canada*. He was held for lengthy periods in solitary confinement and
later under house arrest - all on the basis of secret information which the
Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) has admitted was likely obtained
under torture. Finally, after twelve years, Mr. Mahjoub is permitted to travel
outside Toronto (under onerous conditions), and he is bringing his demand for
justice across these lands.
Mr. Mahjoub is one of five men who have been struggling for justice in Canada
against so-called security certificates. Security certificates allow the
government to indefinitely detain or deport people on the basis of their
profile. He will tell his story as his speaking tour, which began in 2012,
continues into Western Canada. It is a rare opportunity for audiences in other
cities to hear this shocking and compelling story first-hand.
Mr. Mahjoub will be speaking in *Calgary* tonight, April 9th @ 6pm
He will then speak in *Edmonton* on Thursday, April 11th @ 7pm
and be in *Vancouver* on Friday, April 12th @ 6pm
and in *Victoria* on Saturday, April 13th @ 7pm (all are free to attend;
location info below).
He will be joined by Syed Hussan, a member of the Justice for Mahjoub Network.
Hussan is a migrant justice, anti-austerity and indigenous solidarity organizer
who has been active in No One Is Illegal -- Toronto and the Solidarity City
Network (which just made Toronto Canada's first Sanctuary City).

No need to read /1984/ when the real life nightmare can be heard live and
person. I'm amazed that he is able to share his horrific experience with us;
don't miss this opportunity to support him and learn how to help end these
"security" certificates.

Edmonton, April 11th @ 7pm at Room 134, University of Alberta North Campus

Did you know that in Scandinavia...
--> there are laws protecting children from all forms of spanking and bullying,
even from parents
--> these laws do not imprison or punish parents but instead raise awareness
(http://www.empathicparenting.org)
--> the elderly are able to remain at home thanks to programs that provide free
meals, free transportation, and free care/
