Below are the links. I hope you'll find the segment interesting and useful to pass on to others who need to understand what's going on in this regard. In my last comments in the interview I mention the New Priorities Network < NewPrioritiesNetwork.org > now coming together as a coalition of labor, community, student, and peace groups to respond to the budget crises, to Move the Money from war and military purposes to urgent human needs. US Labor Against the War is part of this network. I hope all who receive this message will get involved in this campaign to change radically the priorities guiding our country. This is a long-term battle that we need to get started as soon as possible. Know of someone who may have to drop out because they can't afford the price of higher education? Forced to take out a student loan? Upset that your classes are too big, or too electronic (online Span 101, anyone?), or simply non-existent? If so, you're not alone. The budget cuts and tuition hikes are affecting every single student in the UNC system. Unfortunately, recent proposals have suggested continuing policies like last years 23% hike in tuition (more than $1,200 in-state)...only further limiting access to education for today's students. Join Students for a Democratic Society for an open discussion on education changes. This event will include opportunities for questions and discussion with N.C. Senator Ellie Kinnaird. It sounds like a number of people are assuming we'll just keep our same time slot: Fridays at 12pm. Does this time slot still work for people? Shall we have our first meeting this Friday? Maybe we can take the opportunity to touch-base, hear what people have been up to over break, and get caught up on the latest round of student protests, budget cuts, etc. Perhaps then we can also finalize a book or two to read for the semester, and lay out our plan. Did people decide to meet elsewhere this semester, or shall we re-convene at Coates building at least for this initial meeting until another venue is agreed upon? Looking forward to getting the group going again this semester. -Yousuf > Hi all - > > I also like the idea of weekly readings and second Yousuf's idea of either > the Edu-factory book or Marc Bousquet's book.
