IMHO posting this particular event (see details in post, via link above)
is not:
> It completely plays into what we talked about at the first meeting,
> students seeing themselves "in solidarity with" rather than as
> workers,
Think of this event instead as a learning opportunity:
> Learn how Lenoir employees, with the help of UNC students, went on
> strike in the 1960s and successfully increased their wages and the
> wages of 5,000 other state employees. Hear first hand accounts of how
> UNC-CH housekeepers sued the University in the 1990s on issues of
> discrimination and won pay raises and University recognition of their
> union. Finally, learn about worker struggles that are happening on our
> campus today
Presumably, as workers, we can learn something from the experiences of
others--no?
> There will also be free med deli food,
Seals the deal :-)
The only way I can see in which Laurel's post (see link above) was
inappropriate, was, it threadjacked. I.e. Laurel's post replied to a
previous one
https://lists.resist.ca/pipermail/recomposingunc/2010-November/000001.html
using the same subject ("welcome!"), despite in fact being about
something completely different. I'll post separately about how
threadjacking causes problems, and is easily avoided.
