1) Protest Action: MP Hedy Fry - Stop NATO! Canada Out of NATO!

While inflation is on the rise and impacting the daily lives of people in Canada, funding for healthcare, education, jobs, housing and climate solutions is a dire need. Instead, the government of Canada is spending enormous amounts of money on increasing military spending and war-mongering worldwide. On March 28 the Trudeau government released the 2023 budget, which includes $55 billion towards new and expanded weapons systems benefiting dangerous military alliances such as NATO and NORAD. This is in addition to current operations costs, and other big-ticket items like the 88 F-35 fighter jets that the government of Canada has moved forward on purchasing. The fossil fuel intensive jets that are designed for strike-first operations have a lifetime cost of over $77 billion over 30 years. 

The government of Canada is contributing to more imperialist wars, occupations, military interventions, bombings and drone strikes. Canada is also increasing its participation in the North American Treaty Organization (NATO), which is responsible for deadly and destructive military interventions worldwide. 

Liberal MP Hedy Fry is the head of Canada’s delegation to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (OSCEPA), which meets June 30-July 4 in Vancouver. We demand that MP Hedy Fry use this opportunity to stop supporting the NATO-fuelled conflict in Ukraine, and support negotiations with Russia.

Join for a gathering and conversation with Tamara Lorincz! Tamara is based in Waterloo, Ontario and is a member of the Canadian Voice of Women for Peace and Women’s International League for Peace and Freedom-Canada. She has researched and written extensively on climate justice and the environmental impacts of the military. Join to hear about Tamara’s recent antiwar trips to Europe, and to Vienna for the International Summit for Peace in Ukraine, and to discuss how to work for an end to NATO and Canada out of NATO!
