CARLOS LAZO - Leading Cuban-American organizer and founder of Puentes de Amor (Bridges of Love), which initiated the monthly Worldwide Caravan Movement, which sees cities around the world take to the streets on the last Sunday of every month, to demand an end to the U.S. blockade on Cuba and to unite Cuban families.

DAVID DENNY - President of the Cuban Barbadian Friendship Association, General Secretary of the Caribbean Movement for Peace and Integration and the General Secretary for the Friends of Venezuela Solidarity Committee (Barbados). In 2016 he received the Award of Friendship from the Government of Cuba.

CALLA WALSH – Organizer with the Boston-Cuba Solidarity Committee, Massachusetts Peace Action, BDS Boston, and the Boston Young Communist League. She was a first-time brigadista on the 2022 International May Day Brigade at 17 years old.

May 2022 is an important month for the Cuba solidarity movement. On May 1, Cuba celebrated International Workers’ Day with massive rallies across the island for the first time to 2 years (due to the Covid-19 pandemic). Millions of Cubans took to the streets across Cuba in defence of workers’ rights and with a strong united message against the ongoing cruel and unjust U.S. Blockade on Cuba.

The Che Guevara Volunteer Work Brigade, a project of the Canadian Network on Cuba, was in Havana for this important day to witness and participate. They also brought us back some video greetings direct from Cuba on the impacts of the blockade on different aspects of Cubans’ daily lives.

Also, later this month on May 29, dozens of cities across North America will once again participate in the caravans and rallies against the blockade, initiated by Puentes de Amor and Cuban American Carlos Lazo. The Miami Caravan has put out a call for support, as their caravan is under attack with right-wing elements threatening to counter protest. Carlos Lazo, who will be in Miami, has also been receiving death threats. We are honoured that Carlos Lazo will join us for this special anniversary monthly virtual picket to continue the struggle against the blockade and to speak out against these vicious attacks by anti-Cuba forces.

Please join us for this special virtual picket on May 17 to mark two consecutive years of monthly virtual pickets against the cruel U.S. blockade on Cuba! We are looking forward a dynamic program and uniting our voices to demand: End the U.S. blockade on Cuba!  

*** Everyone is encouraged to make protest signs, display banners, or wear t-shirts against the blockade. These can be displayed in a group photo at the end of the virtual picket! Of course, if you don’t have any of these items you are welcome to participate as you are! ***

2)    In concluding the virtual picket, those who wish to participate in the photo will be invited by the co-chairs to turn on their cameras to join in! More specific instructions will be given by co-chairs during the virtual picket.

Mayo de 2022 es un mes importante para el movimiento de solidaridad con Cuba. El 1 de mayo, Cuba celebró el Día Internacional de los Trabajadores con manifestaciones masivas en toda la isla por primera vez en 2 años (debido a la pandemia de Covid-19). Millones de cubanos salieron en las calles de las ciudades de Cuba en defensa de los derechos de los trabajadores y con un fuerte mensaje unido contra el cruel e injusto bloqueo de Estados Unidos contra Cuba.

 

La Brigada de Trabajo Voluntario Che Guevara, un proyecto de la Red Canadiense de Solidaridad con Cuba, estuvo en La Habana para esta importante jornada para ser testigo y participar. También nos trajeron algunos videos con saludos directos desde Cuba sobre los impactos del bloqueo en diferentes aspectos de la vida cotidiana de los cubanos.

 

A finales de este mes, el 29 de mayo, decenas de ciudades de América del Norte volverán a participar en las caravanas y manifestaciones contra el bloqueo, iniciadas por Puentes de Amor y el cubanoamericano Carlos Lazo. La Caravana de Miami ha hecho un llamado de apoyo, ya que su caravana está siendo atacada por elementos de la derecha que amenazan con contrarrestar las protestas. Carlos Lazo, quien estará en Miami, también ha estado recibiendo amenazas de muerte. Nos sentimos honrados de que Carlos Lazo se una a nosotros en este piquete virtual mensual especial de aniversario para continuar la lucha contra el bloqueo y denunciar estos feroces ataques de las fuerzas anticubanas.

 

¡Únase a nosotros en este piquete virtual mensual especial el martes 17 de mayo que marcará dos años consecutivos de piquetes virtuales mensuales contra el cruel bloqueo de Estados Unidos a Cuba! Esperamos celebrar este importante aniversario con un programa dinámico para unir nuestras voces para exigir: ¡Abajo el bloqueo de Estados Unidos contra Cuba!

 

*** Se anima a todos a hacer carteles de protesta, exhibir pancartas o usar camisetas contra el bloqueo. ¡Estos se pueden mostrar en una foto grupal al fin del piquete virtual! Por supuesto, si no tiene ninguno de estos artículos, ¡puede participar tal como es! ***

2) Al concluir la protesta virtual, los copresidentes invitarán a aquellos que deseen participar en la foto a encender sus cámaras para unirse. Los copresidentes darán instrucciones más específicas durante el piquete virtual.
