>From April 2019 to March 2020, the U.S. blockade affected Cuban tourism Amounting to losses of about $1,888,386,675. According to Cuban news agency Prensa Latina, "the imposition of new sanctions by the State Department to regulate travel to Cuba by US citizens, such as the ban on regular and charter flights to international airports, with the exception of the capital's 'Jose Marti,' contributed to this."
Ronald Sanders, from Antigua and Barbuda who is the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States and the Organization of American States (OAS), recently recognized the important progress Cuba has made towards the production of Covid-19 vaccines despite the unjust and cruel United States blockade. He also hopes that members of the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) could soon benefit from the Cuban vaccines.
After Sanders mentioned other vaccines produced by Cuba, the academic noted that this Covid-19 vaccine would help break the global control of the market by large pharmaceutical companies in United States and Europe. At the same time, he called the refusal of U.S. companies Pfizer and Moderna to facilitate exports, an ignorance of 'human rights, including the right to life and health.'
On the other hand, Cuba continues to lead the way in the world-wide struggle against the Covid-19 pandemic, both on the island and with medical professionals in 39 countries around the world!
The new Biden administration has a responsibility to immediately remove Cuba from the so-called list of “state sponsors of terrorism” and reverse all of the anti-Cuba measures implemented by the Trump administration over the last 4 years. But most of all, President Biden must end this cruel and inhuman U.S. government policy, which has been attempting to strangle Cuba for over 60 years.
We must redouble our efforts to end the U.S. blockade on Cuba in 2021, #UnBlockCuba2021
