CLAUDIA CHAUFAN - professor at York University, Toronto, Canada. Born and

*** Everyone is encouraged to make protest signs, display banners, or wear
t-shirts in solidarity with Venezuela. These can be displayed in a group
photo at the end of the online picket!

1)    The program will begin with invited speakers and greetings.

2)    In concluding the online picket, those who wish to participate in the
photo will be able to turn on their cameras to join in! More specific
instructions will be given during the online picket.



April 13, 2002 was a day of victory for the people of Venezuela and the
Bolivarian Revolution. On that day, then President Hugo Chavez returned as
the rightfully elected President of Venezuela after an April 11, 2002
attempted coup d’état lead by right-wing forces supported by the U.S.
government.



Today, 19 years after their failed coup, the U.S. government and their
allies, including the government of Canada, continue their non-stop
campaign of destabilization and brutal sanctions against Venezuela. Every
day, the people of Venezuela face shortages of goods, fuel, food, medicine,
and daily necessities that are the result of inhuman, brutal, and heavy
imperialist sanctions and blockade.



As people living in the U.S. and Canada, we have the responsibility to
stand with the people of Venezuela against U.S. and Canada sanctions,
attacks and threats against Venezuela.

El 13 de abril de 2002 fue un día de victoria para el pueblo de Venezuela y
la Revolución Bolivariana. Ese día, el entonces presidente Hugo Chávez
regresó como el legítimamente elegido presidente de Venezuela después de un
intento de golpe de estado el 11 de abril de 2002 liderado por fuerzas de
derecha apoyadas por el gobierno de Estados Unidos.



Hoy, 19 años después de su fallido golpe de Estado, el gobierno de Estados
Unidos y sus aliados, incluido el gobierno de Canadá, continúan su campaña
incesante de desestabilización y brutales sanciones contra Venezuela. Todos
los días, el pueblo de Venezuela enfrenta escasez de bienes, combustible,
alimentos, medicinas y necesidades diarias que son el resultado de
sanciones y bloqueos imperialistas inhumanos, brutales y severos.



Como personas que viven en los EE. UU. Y Canadá, tenemos la responsabilidad
de apoyar al pueblo de Venezuela contra las sanciones, los ataques y las
amenazas de EE. UU. Y Canadá contra Venezuela.
