“The Devil We Know: the Chemistry of a Cover-Up ” (2018) documents how
DuPont (which merged with Dow Chemical in 2017) has been producing the
toxic chemical C8, which is used to make what we know as Teflon
non-stick products (cookware, dental floss, clothing. furniture, etc.).
It turns out that DuPont knew since the 1960s that C8 causes cancer and
other diseases, but continues producing and selling the chemical
worldwide. C8 is now found in 99.7% of US water supplies. "The Devil We
Know" follows what happens after the discovery that C8 is being dumped
in a river at Parkersburg, near a Du Pont plant in West Virginia, as the
community takes on the powerful company. The documentary is relevant for
Canada, where Teflon non-stick products are widely used.

No admission, but donations towards expenses are gratefully accepted.
This showing will also be your last call to buy tickets (just $5) for
the annual Bethune Dinner - the door prize at the dinner is an
all-expenses paid trip for two to Cuba, and all tickets are entered in
the draw!
