Edward Said & Palestine: The Art of Resistance
Friday, 18 October 2019 from 6:00 - 9:00pm
Earth Sciences Building (ESB) - 1012
Color Connected Against Racism (CCAR) and Solidarity for Palestinian Human
Rights (SPHR) are delighted to be hosting David Barsamian on Friday,
October 18th at UBC.
EVENT DESCRIPTION
The event will be centred around David's talk, focusing on US policy
towards Israel and its effect on Palestine, and a Q&A session that will
follow. He will bring his first book with Edward Said- Pen & the Sword, for
those interested. Edward Said was one of the most notable Palestinian
academics, who transformed academia and pushed people to think about
Palestine. With the recent anniversary of his death, SPHR and CCAR are
delighted to be hosting his friend, David Barsamian, to keep his ideas
alive.
ABOUT DAVID BARSAMIAN
One of America’s most tireless and wide-ranging investigative journalists,
David Barsamian has altered the independent media landscape, both with his
weekly radio show Alternative Radio—now in its 34th year—and his books with
Noam Chomsky, Eqbal Ahmad, Howard Zinn, Tariq Ali, Richard Wolff, Arundhati
Roy and Edward Said. His latest books are with Noam Chomsky: Global
Discontents: Rising Threats to Democracy and Edward Said: Culture and
Resistance. He lectures on world affairs, imperialism, capitalism,
propaganda, the media and global rebellions.
David's latest books are with Noam Chomsky-Global Discontents and Edward
Said-Culture & Resistance. The latter was out of print and has just been
republished with a new intro by David. The book is about Palestine, the
Middle East and US policy.
Please RSVP by responding to 'Going' on the FaceBook event page and also
securing your spot through the link.
There will be refreshments, snacks and dinner provided.
We acknowledge that this event is taking place on the unceded, traditional,
ancestral and occupied homelands of the xʷməθkwəy̓əm (Musqueam) people.
