On July 26th, 1953 the 26-year-old Fidel Castro led a group of young Cuban revolutionaries in an attack against the Moncada Army Barracks in Santiago de Cuba. This was their initial strike against the U.S.-backed Cuban dictator Fulgencio Batista. Although this attack was a military defeat for the young rebels, which took the lives of dozens of their fighters and led to the imprisonment of Fidel and many others, it is seen as the beginning of the Cuban Revolution. It was the July 26th Movement, named after this initial defeat, that led the Cuban Revolution to victory! This day has now become an important annual celebration in Cuba and around the world. Join Vancouver Communities in Solidarity with Cuba as we come together to share great food, games, and music in Trout Lake Park!

El 26 de julio de 1953, Fidel Castro, de 26 años, dirigió a un grupo de cubanos jóvenes y revolucionarios en un ataque contra el cuartel Moncada en Santiago de Cuba. Este fue su ataque inicial contra Fulgencio Batista, el dictador cubano que fue respaldado por los Estados Unidos. Aunque este ataque fue una derrota militar para los jóvenes rebeldes, que se cobró la vida de decenas de sus combatientes y llevaron al encarcelamiento de Fidel y muchos otros, se considera el comienzo de la Revolución cubana. ¡Fue el Movimiento 26 de julio, que lleva el nombre de esta derrota inicial, lo que llevó a la Revolución Cubana a la victoria! Este día se ha convertido en una importante celebración anual en Cuba y en todo el mundo. ¡Únase a las Comunidades de Vancouver en Solidaridad con Cuba cuando nos reunimos para compartir excelente comida, juegos y música en Trout Lake Park!
