This event will take place on the traditional and unceded territories of
the Tsleil-Waututh (səl̓ilwətaɁɬ), the Musqueam (xʷməθkʷəy̓əm), and the
Squamish (Skwxwú7mesh) Coast Salish Nations.

On August 5, 2019 U.S. President Trump signed yet another executive order
imposing further sanctions against Venezuela. This brutal escalation
strengthens the blockade against Venezuela and gives the U.S. government
broader power to impose devastation on the people of Venezuela by enabling
the U.S. Department of Treasury to target Venezuela’s allies. This latest
escalation comes on top of U.S. sanctions announced in July that
specifically target the government of Venezuela’s food distribution
program, known as CLAP. The CLAP program delivers heavily subsidized basic
foodstuffs to 6 million Venezuelan families monthly and it is an important
way the Maduro government is trying to lessen the devastating impact of the
economic and financial blockade on poor and working people in Venezuela.

While the U.S. government announced the increased sanctions, they also
continue to threaten the people of Venezuela stating in a press release,
“As the Trump Administration has made clear:  All options are on the
table.” In order to overthrow the democratically elected government of
President Nicolas Maduro, the U.S. government and their allies, including
the government of Canada intend to continue their campaign imposing war and
economic devastation on the people of Venezuela. However, people in
Venezuela are clear – they will continue to organize and mobilize in
defense of their sovereignty, self-determination and President Maduro. We
will echo their calls in Vancouver, Canada and will also be joining
protests happening in other cities, including New York and Washington DC.

We will also be demanding that all charges be dropped against members of
the Embassy Protection Collective who were arrested by the U.S. government
in their heroic defense of Venezuela’s sovereignty. For 37 days the Embassy
Protection Collective protected the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington, DC
from take over by supporters of the U.S.-backed puppet so-called “interim
President” of Venezuela Juan Guaido. Read more about this important

El 5 de agosto de 2019, el presidente de los Estados Unidos, Trump, firmó
otra orden ejecutiva que imponía más sanciones contra Venezuela. Esta
escalada brutal fortalece el bloqueo contra Venezuela y le da al gobierno
de EE. UU. un poder más amplio para imponer la devastación al pueblo de
Venezuela al permitir que el Departamento del Tesoro de EE. UU. apunte a
los aliados de Venezuela. Esta última escalada se suma a las sanciones
estadounidenses anunciadas en julio que se dirigen específicamente al
programa de distribución de alimentos del gobierno de Venezuela, conocido
como CLAP. El programa CLAP entrega alimentos básicos fuertemente
subsidiados a 6 millones de familias venezolanas mensualmente y es una
forma importante en que el gobierno de Maduro está tratando de disminuir el
impacto devastador del bloqueo económico y financiero en los pobres y
trabajadores en Venezuela.

Si bien el gobierno de los EE. UU. Anunció el aumento de las sanciones,
también continúa amenazando al pueblo de Venezuela declarando en un
comunicado de prensa: "Como la Administración Trump ha dejado en claro:
todas las opciones están sobre la mesa". Con el fin de derrocar al gobierno
democráticamente elegido del presidente Nicolás Maduro, el gobierno de EE.
UU. y sus aliados, incluido el gobierno de Canadá, tienen la intención de
continuar su campaña que impone la guerra y la devastación económica al
pueblo de Venezuela. Sin embargo, las personas en Venezuela son claras:
continuarán organizándose y movilizándose en defensa de su soberanía,
autodeterminación y el presidente Maduro. Haremos eco de sus llamadas en
Vancouver, Canadá y también nos uniremos a las protestas que ocurren en
otras ciudades, incluidas Nueva York y Washington DC.

También exigiremos que se retiren todos los cargos contra miembros del
Colectivo de Protección de la Embajada que fueron arrestados por el
gobierno de los Estados Unidos en su heroica defensa de la soberanía de
Venezuela. Durante 37 días, el Colectivo de Protección de la Embajada
protegió a la Embajada de Venezuela en Washington, DC, de la toma de
control de los partidarios del títere respaldado por los Estados Unidos
