Free Loujain Community Meeting in Vancouver
-
Wednesday, 17 April 2019
- 6:00-8:00pm
Location TBA - Vancouver
For almost a year, UBC alum and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Loujain
Alhathloul has been imprisoned in Saudi Arabia for her courageous women's
rights activism.
Since May 2018, a small group of us who knew Loujain from our time at UBC
have been organizing in solidarity with her and other detained Saudi
women's rights activists and calling for their release.
She is currently facing a closed-door trial, with charges ranging from
contacting international bodies to applying to a UN job. Her family has
confirmed instances of torture and sexual harassment she has faced while
imprisoned.
In this critical time, international support and solidarity is needed more
than ever. We invite our community in Vancouver to join us for a
collaborative strategy-generating session.
We will begin by offering more information on Loujain's case and create
opportunities for brainstorming ideas for this campaign work. There will
also be time to mingle and connect more informally.
This event is supported by TSSU.
This event will be taking place on the unceded Coast Salish territories of
the Musqueam, Squamish and Tsleil-Waututh peoples.
