On Friday, September 23rd, 2022 Fridays for Future Ottawa and Climat GO
will hold an interprovincial protest by marching, respectively, from
Confederation Park in Ottawa and the Maison du Citoyen in Gatineau, meeting
at Parliament Hill to protest government inaction with respect to the
climate crisis.

With the acute stage of the pandemic behind us, Fridays for Future Ottawa
expects at least 1,000 participants. In Gatineau, the Société de Transport
de l’Outaouais will not charge bus fare from 10:00am to 4:00pm, and some
schools have canceled classes to allow students to participate.

Strike organizers call on all levels of government to dramatically cut
emissions and implement a Just Transition to #LeaveNoOneBehind. Fridays for
Future Ottawa calls on Ottawa to #VoteForClimate in the upcoming municipal
election and presents five additional demands. Climat GO adds a further two.

Among other notable speakers, Alex Silas, Regional Executive Vice-President
of Public Service Alliance of Canada (PSAC) will deliver a rousing speech
at Confederation Park. Shortly thereafter, Claudette Commanda (University
of Ottawa’s first Indigenous Chancellor), student leaders Kaia Thomas and
Mary Stuart, Angela Keller-Herzog (executive director of Community
Associations for Environmental Sustainability (CAFES)), and Mères au front
(Mothers Step In) will speak at Parliament Hill. Renowned climate writer
Seth Klein will remotely address the crowd.

In addition to speeches, the 2022 climate strike will include poetry, art,
and music. Local favourite Maria Hawkins will get things started in
Confederation Park, followed by Indigenous and local artists. Samantha
Christ Francois, a new Canadian from Haiti will set the mood on the Hill,
followed by a mix of poetry and solo folk interspersed between speakers.
Not least, the Raging Grannies are back for another performance this year!

Organizers warn not to let the lively atmosphere fool you. As the
International Panel on Climate Change  has repeatedly noted in recent
years, we are running out of time. “It’s now or never, if we want to limit
global warming to 1.5°C” Jim Skea, Co-Chair of IPCC Working Group III

Without the media’s assistance, we will not prevail in mobilizing public
opinion in favour of direly needed, ambitious climate policies from all
levels of government—public opinion to which the political elite respond in
a liberal democracy. We therefore encourage media requests for interviews
with the following youth leaders and any other coverage which amplifies our
voices.

*GRÈVE CLIMATIQUE – TOUS ENSEMBLE POUR LA JUSTICE CLIMATIQUE*

Vendredi le 23 septembre 2022, « Fridays for Future » Ottawa et « Climat GO
» tiendront une manifestation interprovinciale en marchant,
respectueusement, à partir du parc de la Confédération à Ottawa et de la
Maison du Citoyen à Gatineau, pour se réunir sur la Colline du Parlement
afin de protester contre l'inaction du gouvernement face à la crise du
climat.

La phase aiguë de la pandémie étant derrière nous, « Fridays for Future »
Ottawa attend au moins 1 000 participants. À Gatineau, la Société de
transport de l'Outaouais ne facturera pas les frais d'autobus entre 10h00
et 16h00, et certaines écoles ont annulé les cours pour permettre aux
élèves de participer.

Les organisateurs de la grève appellent tous les niveaux de gouvernement à
réduire considérablement les émissions et à mettre en œuvre une Transition
Équitable #LeaveNoOneBehind. Fridays for Future Ottawa appelle Ottawa à
voter pour le climat lors des prochaines élections municipales et
présente* cinq
revendications.* *Climat GO* soumet deux revendications de plus.

Parmi d'autres conférenciers notables, Alex Silas, vice-président exécutif
régional de l’AFPC prononcera un discours vibrant au parc de la
Confédération avant la marche. Ensuite, Claudette Commanda (première
chancelière autochtone de l'Université d'Ottawa), les leaders étudiantes
Kaia Thomas et Mary Stuart, Angela Keller-Herzog (directrice générale de
«Community Associations for Environmental Sustainability (CAFES)») et Mères
au front feront des discours sur la Colline Parlementaire. Le célèbre
écrivain sur le climat Seth Klein s'adressera à distance à la foule.

En plus des discours, la grève climatique de 2022 comprendra de la poésie,
de l'art et de la musique. La favorite locale Maria Hawkins lancera les
choses dans le parc de la Confédération, suivie par des artistes
autochtones et locaux. Samantha Christ François mettra l'ambiance sur la
Colline, suivie d'un mélange de poésie et de folk. Enfin, les « Raging
Grannies » sont de retour pour une autre performance cette année!

Les organisateurs nous avertissent de ne pas se laisser tromper par
l'ambiance festive. Comme l'a souligné à plusieurs reprises le Groupe
d’experts intergouvernemental sur l’évolution du climat ces dernières
années, nous manquons de temps. "C'est maintenant ou jamais, si nous
voulons limiter le réchauffement climatique à 1,5°C" Jim Skea, Co-Chair of
IPCC Working Group III

Sans l’aide des médias, nous ne pourrons pas influencer l’opinion publique
en faveur de politiques climatiques qui sont désespérément nécessaires –
opinion publique à laquelle répond l’élite politique. Nous encourageons les
requêtes des médias pour des entrevues avec les jeunes leaders suivants et
toute autre reportage qui amplifie nos voix.
