Correction from last email, and additional event:
The ADDITIONAL EVENT, next week, is Israeli Apartheid Week happening at
Carleton. For full details, see:
http://www.saiacarleton.com/p/israeli-apartheid-week-2017.html
The CORRECTION is for today's protest against the National Gallery hosting
a talk by the UofT professor - his name is JORDAN Peterson, not (as written
in our previous email) 'James' Peterson.
The protest is from 5-7pm this evening, by the Giant Spider outside the
Gallery. See our previous email below for further ways to put pressure on
the National Gallery.
Note that Peterson is also giving a talk at the Ottawa Public Library this
Saturday, hosted by ACT for Canada, a group that is also hosting an
Islamophobic speaker from New Zealand at the end of the month to give two
talks against bill M-103 and 'the radical left'.
More for today's protest - and see attached image of signs (courtesty of
PaperSignManInc)

PROTEST ORGANIZER STATEMENT re National Gallery hosting Jordan Peterson:
Protest day is upon us!
Over the past week we have seen an incredible show of support and Marc
Mayer the director of the National Gallery, is feeling our pressure.
Members have revoked their membership. His own staff has publicly opposed
his decision. Multiple organizations across Ottawa have voiced their
distaste and dissention.
Mayer is so scared of our voices that he plans to set up his office as a
secondary broadcasting space in the event of a disruption during the talk!
He knows that we will not accept his flawed stewardship of the National
Gallery.
So stretch your vocal chords, grab your noise-makers, bring your posters
(we have lots and like to share!), put on some cosy clothes and come and
meet us under Maman (the spider) for a peaceful but NOISY gathering.
Join us after 5 to fill the plaza with positive, critical energy as we
prepare to receive words from dynamic community leaders intent on sharing
their messages of individuality, respect, freedom and justice.
We plan to show our love for each other, stand in solidarity with each
other and refuse to engage with anyone who should attempt to entice us to
do otherwise.
SO Let’s make a scene and let Marc Mayer know that Jordan Peterson is NOT
welcome in our public cultural spaces and that our understanding of
creativity today does not involve intolerance and wilful ignorance but
rather is an expression of compassion, empathy, love and solidarity.

STRIKE SUPPORT FOR CUPE 2073 @ CANADIAN HEARING SERVICES
The picket signs went up Monday morning at 2197 Riverside Drive (near Bank
Street). There are over 200 workers on strike, Province-wide, members of
CUPE Local 2073 who work for the Canadian Hearing Society. Ottawa has one
of the 20 locations in the Province. The Employer is insisting on a major
claw back to the members' sick leave program. They have been bargaining for
four years. Their contract expired March 31, 2013. The parties bargained
for the last three days with the Union offering many ways to satisfy the
Employer's demands, but the Employer was not interested in getting a deal.
The Employer has forced this bargaining unit, made of almost 90% women, out
on strike.
Please come out and support this picket line. It is a small workplace and
they need your help on the line.
Contact Cidália Ribeiro, cribeiro at cupe.ca, for information about the
picketing schedule.

NATIONAL GALLERY & OTTAWA PUBLIC LIBRARY HOSTING UofT JAMES PETERSON
https://www.facebook.com/cara.tierney.79/posts/10158324613545357
Dear Ottawans,
This Thursday the National Gallery of Canada will be hosting a talk on
Psychology and Creativity.
The speaker, who is mostly known for his views concerning trans identities,
will also be giving a second talk at the Ottawa Public Library hosted by a
group called Act! For Canada: a right wing, anti-immigration, anti-muslim,
nationalist group. http://www.actforcanada.ca
These are the politics of the individual (and his associates) that the
National Gallery has chosen to address the topic of CREATIVITY.
Based on the violent repercussions resulting from this individual’s actions
last fall in Toronto the following threat assessment was conducted:
http://intactoronto.com/…/threat-assessment-jordan-peterson…
As someone who believes that basic human rights should be granted to
everyone, it is disconcerting that a federally funded public cultural
institution would hire someone who actively campaigns against equality. As
an artist I find it troubling that this is the individual being selected as
the authority on something that is the core of our professions, our
identities and our lives: CREATIVITY
Please consider sharing this post, contacting the gallery and please
consider attending the protest this Thursday (March 9, 5-7pm, at the
Gallery)
