Bonjour cherEs alliéEs,

On se présente Anne Butler et Mélanie Jubinville-Stafford, administratrices
au sein du conseil d'administration de "Maison d'amitié", un refuge
d'urgence pour femmes victimes de violence et leurs enfants.

Depuis quelques semaines, Maison d’amitié se voit confrontée à plusieurs
difficultés. Entres autres, suite au départ imprévu de 3 administratrices,
le conseil d’administration se trouve présentement sans quorum. Nous
travaillons en étroite collaboration avec le Ministère des services sociaux
et communautaires afin de rectifier la situation. Votre appui est
nécessaire afin d’assurer la survie de ces services essentiels à la
communauté francophone.

Maison d’amitié doit tenir une Assemblée générale extraordinaire mardi
prochain, le 20 mai à 18h00, à l’Hôtel de ville d’Ottawa (110 Ave Laurier,
salon des conseillers). Le but de cette AGE est de dûment constituer notre
CA et ainsi nous permettre de poursuivre dans nos fonctions. Nous sommes
donc à la recherche de femmes détenant de bonnes capacités de gouvernance
qui seraient intéressées à se joindre au conseil d’administration (de façon
intérimaire ou de façon plus permanente).

Considérant la composition des membres actuelles, les expertises suivantes
seraient prioritaires; expertise légale, connaissance approfondie de la
gouvernance et des obligations d'administrateur, en ressources humaines, au
niveau de la problématique de la violence faite aux femmes, expertise en
gestion des risques, en planification stratégique, en relations publiques.
Bien que les prochains mois risquent de nécessiter un peu plus de
rencontres qu’à la normale, nous sommes confiantes de pouvoir remédier
rapidement aux défis. Nos rencontres ont généralement lieu au Centre
communautaire de la basse-ville d’Ottawa (40 Cobourg).

Il va sans dire que l'expertise et la crédibilité d'une telle personne nous
aiderait grandement, notre but ultime étant d’avoir un CA compétent et
diversifié et ce afin d’assurer l’excellente gouvernance de Maison d’amitié
dont la mission est:  « Maison d'amitié est une maison d'hébergement
francophone à but non lucratif pour les femmes victimes de violences et
leurs enfants. Elle est féministe et anti-oppressive dans son approche et
travaille à contrer la violence faite aux femmes, dans toutes leurs
diversités, en leur offrant des services variés. »

corporations in the service sector by building worker-led committees*

We are holding a one-day activist organizing training with the possibility
of leading into a more intense organizing program for those interested.

We are looking for people who want to take on the boss by leading worker
led committees to win service sector fights.

Take part in exciting campaigns in Ottawa to win justice and raise the
standard of living for service workers in the hotel and food service
industries.

Learn organizing skills alongside our rank and file leaders, how to
campaign strategically and how to understand our place within the larger
movement for social justice.

You should have:
• Passion for low-wage and other worker struggles
• Personal confidence and ability to deal with conflict
• Ability to work well with others in a diverse team environment

UNITE HERE is leading the fight to organize hundreds of thousands of
low-wage workers -- many of them people of colour, immigrants, and women --
in hotels, casinos, industrial laundries, institutional cafeterias, airport
concessions, and apparel manufacturing, distribution, and retail facilities
throughout North America.

Our union is at the forefront of battles for workers rights, immigration
reform, living wages, and quality jobs in many cities throughout North
America.

The Position: Summer Volunteer, Outreach and Programming Coordinator

Start Date: June 2, 2014
End Date: September 21, 2014

Term Position: part-time (20 hours per week)

Benefits:
• OPIRG is a unionized workplace, and this job will be a unionized position
with CUPE 1281
• Salary: $20.90 per hour
