https://www.facebook.com/events/1428486690735932
Organizing meeting: Friday April 18 at 7pm
at Planet Coffee, 24A York St
https://www.facebook.com/events/641387402604180
The Morgentaler clinic is closing in New Brunswick. This is bad news for
the women of New Brunswick and of PEI - right now, their choice is to get
the permission of 2 doctors, or pay $800. Starting in July, they will only
be able to access an abortion with the permission of 2 doctors. This is a
violation of the Canada Health Act, is terrible health policy, and
endangers the lives of women.
There are solidarity rallies happening across the country - let's organize
one in Ottawa. We're meeting this Friday at 7 PM, to organize a rally for
next Thursday, April 24 at lunchtime.
Please spread the word !
Also : people in Fredericton are A) bringing wire coat hangers to place on
the steps of their legislature. Let's do the same. Please bring wire coat
hangers if you have them. and B) wearing red. If you can too, awesome.

May 1st : May Day in Ottawa
- Gathering @ 4 PM at McNabb Park
- March @ 5 PM
https://www.facebook.com/events/215786685286612
This Day of Mobilization will be held here in Ottawa on May 1st, 2014 –
International Workers’ Day, also known as ‘May Day’ – and will be the third
such mobilization spearheaded by Solidarity Against Austerity.
We are inviting you to participate with us in planning and organizing this
important event. We understand that your community and the people you
represent are among the millions who have been seriously hurt by the
existing corporate neoliberal agenda. 2013 saw some of the worst attacks
yet on working people and their families, the continued poisoning of our
environment, rollbacks on human rights, and hurtful cuts to critical public
services such as education and health care. As it stands, 2014 looks to be
even worse.

*RAISE THE RATES TOUR:Fighting Back Against Cuts to Disability Benefits –
from U.K to Ontario*
The Raise the Rates Campaign is excited to announce an Ontario-wide
speaking tour this coming May 2014 of Ellen Clifford from Disabled People
Against the Cuts (DPAC) UK.
DATES *location details to be posted soon*
https://www.facebook.com/events/383847668424188
• May 6: Sudbury
• May 7: Ottawa
• May 8: Montreal
• May 12: Kingston
• May 13: Kitchener-Waterloo
• May 14: Toronto
Who is DPAC: The Cameron Government in the UK has implemented brutal cuts
to programs for unemployed and disabled people. This includes a system
called the Work Capability Assessment that has been used to deny benefits
to thousands of people. Disabled People Against Cuts (DPAC) is an
organization in the UK that has been at the forefront of challenging this
situation. It has mobilized disabled people to fight back and formed
alliances with community organizations and unions in resisting the
austerity measures of the Cameron Government. The hated private company,
Atos, that was carrying out the assessments of sick and disabled people has
been forced to quit as a result of the powerful resistance DPAC and others
have taken up.
Here in Ontario, we also face major attacks. Ontario Works (Welfare) and
ODSP (Disability) rates are too low to enable people to pay their rent and
eat properly. The Special Diet and Community Start Up have been slashed by
the Ontario Liberal government. Under huge pressure from ongoing community
action, the Liberals have promised not to merge OW and ODSP but the danger
remains that they will bring in a UK style assessment system that would
pose a huge threat to disabled people on ODSP. We need to understand what
is happening elsewhere and how people are fighting back and winning against
the attacks. Austerity is global – but so is our resistance.

*Justice for Deepan needs your help*
End Racist Attacks on Citizenship! Harper tries to deport Canadians – Help
Stop Him! Canadian made stateless by Stephen Harper – Fight Conservative
Racism!
I am an Ottawa-born man who is facing deportation to India, a country where
I have never lived and am not a citizen of. The only thing stopping my
deportation at this point is that India has confirmed I am not a citizen
and will not issue a travel document to me for my removal.
For my full story, check out:
http://www.justicefordeepan.org/background/chronolongy
I am also in the process of filing a Canadian Charter of Rights and
Freedoms application in federal court. Through this avenue my legal team
will aim to prove that the government is violating its own Charter. If
successful, the federal court will have to acknowledge and uphold my
citizenship and Charter rights. This case will be precedent setting,
limiting the government’s ability strip citizenship from anyone who is born
in Canada.
The costs for this legal challenge are enormous. The costs for this are
already $20,000. I need to raise this amount by June 1st, 2014 and am in
the fight for my life against Harper’s racist machine.
