*Pro-Choice presence during the «March for Life»
Thurs May 12, noon-3pm*
at Parliament Hill and near 160 Elgin St
- Noon: we meet on parliament hill (during the anti-choice christian
ho-down) and take space with our sex-positiveness. Generally, the strategy
here has been to sit or stand quietly. We will meet directly on the Hill
this year, on the east side of the grass (you can generally spot us as we
tend to have colourful homemade signs)
- As not everyone feels comfortable or safe being on Parliament Hill during
the rally, we will be again offering an alternate space for individuals to
meet at the Terry Fox Memorial at Metcalfe & Wellington, across the street
from Parliament Hill. Folks from the pro-choice community are welcome there
if they feel they need to step back from the rally itself. Folks are also
welcome, as always, to simply join us near the Human Rights monument on
Elgin as well.
- 1:30pm: Like previous years, we will be near the Human Rights monument on
Elgin street during the anti-choice march *the exact spot is decided the day
of as antis always get a permit for the monument before we know the exact
date*
- What to bring; Yourself, lots of creative reproductive justice signs (see
below), instruments (like drums or a trumpet), lovers, children, siblings
and friends ready to loudly chant that «this fucked up shit has got to go».
Bringing snacks to share is also always appreciated!
- After march: park debrief. Info will be given by word of mouth on the day
of :)

*SNAG CANSEC meeting
Thurs May 12, 7 pm*
91A Fourth Ave: Quakers' Meeting House
Please join us to help build the momentum toward June 1 when the CANSEC
weapons fair is back in town.
We have some really good news to report
We have some creative ideas needing organizers
So come out and see what you would like to do!
Everyone is welcome.
NOTE: There will be a nonviolence training and event preparation: Sunday,
May 29, 1-5 pm. To reserve a place, call 613-565-5959 or email
snag.cansec at gmail.com
"Join the Spring Nuremberg Action Group (SNAG) as we throw a snag into the
CANSEC weapons fair on June 1st. Meet up at 8 AM to support the civil
disobedience action, and between 12:00 and 1:00 PM for the nonviolent rally.
Remember, any time is peace time, all day if you can! In addition to the
nonviolent “civil disobedience”, there will be many roles for people not
risking arrest. What you can do: Bring signs, banners, and objects of peace
to tie to the fence; picket the entrance; get people to sign the Nuremberg
Principles; have a mass die-in; join the grannies in protest songs; the more
we are the more we can do."

*National Day of Action for Electoral Reform in Canada
Sat May 14, 2pm*
at Parliament Hill
Only 40 percent of Canadians supported our government in the May 2 election,
and yet we wound up with a Conservative majority. The fact that Stephen
Harper now controls Parliament after gaining only 1.8 percent more of the
popular vote than in 2008 is a testament to the arbitrary and antiquated
nature of Canada’s Parliamentary system.
We need an electoral process in which everybody’s vote counts. We need a
government that represents us.
Also happening in Montreal, Toronto, Halifax, Vancouver, Calgary,
Charlottetown, and more?
