*Dive!* Jeremy Seifert, USA, 2010
Inspired by a curiosity about the US's country’s careless habit of sending
food straight to landfills, the multi award-winning documentary DIVE!
follows filmmaker Jeremy Seifert and friends as they dumpster dive in the
back alleys and gated garbage receptacles of Los Angeles’ supermarkets. In
the process, they salvage thousands of dollars worth of good, edible food –
resulting in an inspiring documentary that is equal parts entertainment,
guerilla journalism and call to action. www.divethefilm.com

*Reel Food Film Festival*
Wed March 30, 6:30pm (doors 6pm)
Ottawa Public Library, Main Branch (120 Metcalfe Street)
*La reine malade*, Pascal Sanchez, Quebec, 2009, 90 mins, French with
English sub-titles
Anciet Desrochers loves bees and it shows. Since taking charge of his
parents' Hautes Laurentides hives in 1998 Anciet has witnessed a spectacular
collapse of the world's bee colonies - a collapse that endangers our food
systems and our ecosystems. This film is the story of a beekeeper who does
things differently, to great success. Over the past several seasons, Pascal
Sanchez has documented the Desrochers family's creativity and passion for
their age-old profession, their use of traditional and modern techniques to
protect their queens from predators and bad weather, and their concern about
our food system and declining pollination. Anciet's efforts to develop virus
and disease resistant queens and strengthen his colonies have brought him
international renown as an expert on sustainable agriculture but, as
Sanchez’ film shows, he’s not interested in fame. He just loves bees.

*In Their Own Words: Sex Workers Speak Out*
Wed March 30, 6:30pm
Carleton U, Uni Centre rm 180
*La Putain de Compile*
Born in the early 1960s, the sex workers movement encompasses groups rooted
in 5 continents. The organisation of sex workers into a movement has enabled
their emergence as subjects of their experiences, of their subjectivities,
and of their voices. With short films hailing from Canada, France, USA and
India, La Putain De Compile is an eye opening collection that presents
alternative discourses and representations about sex work. Be it in
traditional media, in feminist groups, or even in our daily lives, there is
a need to give space to those most concerned -- sex workers! various /
