Ottawa - is May 1st May Day or Veg Fest Day?!?!?!*


We heard our mayor Jim Watson declared May 1 as Veg Fest Day in Ottawa

Nothing against Veg Fest (10am-5pm at Glebe CC)...

... but May Day has a history of labour rights struggle that dates back to
the 1800s, and is celebrated throughout the world (in Canada and the US, a
September 'Labour Day' has been used to cloud our collective memory)

This year, busloads of Steelworkers from Hamilton (currently locked out of
their employment, and facing the decimation of their pensions) are coming to
town for a mass rally with us on Parliament Hill (1pm), '*Breaking New
Ground to Defend the Rights of All*!'

So we ask -* if our Mayor's not with us, are you?*

What is this about?

- Be part of a gathering that brings a variety of people together who are
all working for and/or interested in social, economic, and environmental
justice and healthy communities

- Connect with people, discuss issues, and maybe even come up with some
plans on how to support each other's efforts and build a better activist
community

- We want to foster thinking, ideas, visions and plans on the kinds of
learning, networks, 'activist infrastructure', collaborations and projects
that can help build and connect our movements

- This will be a 'participant-directed' event and we can't say for sure what
the outcome will be, but we're excited to find out

- and a FREE LUNCH!!!

We encourage you to come out to this consulta,
and to tell others about it (you can forward them this email)

If you can only make it for part of the day, please still do!
Come late, leave early, or impress us with your stamina (it'll be fun:)
