~~~ 1. Upcoming Organizing For Justice planning meetings ~~~
We will be holding a public meeting to plan for Organizing For Justice in
2010. It will be held:
Sunday Jan 31, 2pm
Jack Purcell Community Centre
(near corner of Elgin and Gilmour)
on facebook: http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=432657975222
We will follow up on the debrief meeting, and look ahead to the
possibilities for 2010.
- Perhaps a May Day 'mini-conference'?
- A third annual version of our traditional fall conference?
- A transformation into an ongoing network that supports and includes
diverse efforts towards social, economic and environmental justice and
healthy communities?
- Something else?
We hope you'll come out and help shape the vision, strategy and plan, that
we can then collectively start to implement.
We're also holding a 'consultation' with an outside 'expert', on Fri Jan 22
at 1pm. This will be a small meeting, but if you're seriously interested in
helping make Organizing For Justice happen this year, and you can make it,
please email us for details: org4justice at gmail.com - the results of this
meeting will be shared at the public meeting on the 31st.
Workers Without Bosses
a speaking tour featuring Argentinian militant/anarchist Sebastián Darraidou
PSAC building, main floor (wheelchair accessible)
233 Gilmour (at Metcalfe)
The popular response to the Argentine economic crisis of December 2001 and
lessons for us in Canada - a Québec and Ontario speaking tour presented by
the Union Communiste Libertaire (UCL) and Common Cause.
We are going through one of the worst economic crises in the history of
capitalism and the answers provided by the state and its lackeys are
illusory. In addition, faced with this impasse, our leaders are trying to
shift the entire burden of the crisis to workers and their communities.
How can we respond differently to this economic crisis? Can we learn from
the experiences of struggles that have happened elsewhere in the world?
To consider these issues, the UCL and Common Cause are organizing a Québec
and Ontario speaking tour this winter on the response of the Argentine
popular classes in the face of a serious economic crisis that shook the
country in the late 2001.
>From 18 January to 12 February, Sebastián Darraidou - a militant from the
anarchist organization Red Libertaria (Argentina) - will travel to different
cities in Quebec and Ontario to talk about this subject. He will discuss
different forms of resistance developed by the Argentine people to counter
the effects of the crisis such as retaking factories and creating
self-managed cooperatives. He will also discuss the involvement of
anarchists in these different struggles.
Hosted by Common Cause Ottawa - co-sponsors (so far): OPIRG/GRIPO-Ottawa;
Ottawa-Outaouais IWW
