*2. Undergrad Contingent at the March 27th Rally & March to Unite the Fight*

We understand that, as undergrads, the struggle of striking 3902 and 3903
members is tied up with our struggle against increasing tuition, falling
wages and diminishing prospects for the future.

Join the Revolutionary Student Movement's undergrad contingent at the

push the struggle to as high a level as we can push it. When you do, you'll
be making it heard loud and clear that working class students are a force
to be reckoned with and that we know who our enemies are: the corrupt
administrations, the governments pursuing austerity agendas, and the whole
capitalist system!

*3. March to Unite the Fight!**When:* *March 27th, 11:30AM *

*Where:* *Beginning at York University Glendon Campus and ending at
University of Toronto (accessible buses and rest stops en route) *

On March 27th join striking workers of CUPE 3902 and CUPE 3903 in a
historic march from York University to the University of Toronto.

Our demands for adequate compensation for the labour we perform are fair
and legitimate. Graduate funding at UofT has not increased since 2008, the
year of the last global economic crisis. At York University, teaching
assistants and graduate assistants continue to put their bodies on the line
to defend tuition indexation – a hard fought measure to keep graduate
studies affordable and accessible for future generations, the inclusion of
LGTBQ equity language, and a funding increase for incoming graduate
students. While tuition and cost-of-living in Toronto continue to skyrocket
– throwing students deeper and deeper into debt and despair, UofT reported
a $200 million budget surplus last year and York, $4 million, with senior
administrators at both institutions enjoying sizeable salary increases.
They can more than afford our modest demands to make universities
accessible to more than the wealthy elites. We are fighting for access to
education that will provide fair learning and teaching conditions for us
all. In sum, we are against the commodification of education and
casualization of labour!

Over the past months, it's become very clear that the administration at
UofT and York, along with the provincial government, are collaborating to
divide our members, chip away at collective bargaining, and crush the
strikes. In response, we are connecting our struggles into one very long
picket line to deliver a collective message to our employers, and
ultimately to a provincial government intent on carrying out its austerity
agenda: We will strike to win!

In organizing together, we hope to inspire other academic workers in the
sector to wage their fight for better working, living, and learning
conditions! Join us on March 27th!

*Please read carefully:*

*4. Environmental Justice Global Divestment Day*

In order to avoid dangerous climate change, the world needs to redirect
investment from fossil fuels to alternative forms of energy that are
compatible with climate safety and social justice.

York University is invested in the fossil fuel industry. Governments and
organizations around the world have recognized that we are approaching the
threshold where climate change will become dangerous and irreversible.
Investment in fossil fuel corporations drives the consumption of fossil
fuel reserves, which must remain underground in order to avoid dangerous
climate change. In addition, the detrimental effect that extraction of
fossil fuels takes on the environment and surrounding communities cannot be
ignored. York plays a direct role in facilitating violent and dangerous
extraction techniques by funding
these fossil fuel companies.

York has divested before from companies for supporting investments contrary
to the mission of the University, and must do it again.

The York community plays a crucial role in the fight for fossil fuel
divestment. I call on York University to:
1. Freeze new fossil fuel investments immediately.
2. York University to commit to full fossil fuel divestment within five
years.

*5. **Scholarship, Arts, Activism: How Scholars, Artists and Activists
Change the World*

This is a* FREE EVENT*. Please circulate widely.

This conference aims to expand on the potential of social justice education
for students, activists, artists and scholars alike by asking the following
questions: What critical interventions are being made to resist
neo-colonial violence? What does it mean to engage in activist work as a
scholar/ activist? Three central areas will be explored: environmental
racism, violence against Indigenous populations, and the increasing
criminalization of racialized youth. The aim of the conference is to use an
arts-based and interactive model to discuss the theoretical and practical
mediations required to engage in critical activism and scholarship.

This event will feature a conversation with scholars such as: Karyn

*Tools for Change Presents: Accessible Movements*
What are the barriers to activism - to claiming an activist identity - to
participating? Is it possible for everyone?

Our groups and movements are stronger when we recognize everyone has
something to contribute; and, organize in ways that support each other with
what we need to participate.

What is radical accessibility? What can radical accessibility look like in
campus and community organizing? How accessible are social justice
movements now? Using an intersectional accessibility analysis – this
workshop will be a space to reflect on thoughts, ideas and actions on
accessibility. Facilitated by Kayla Carter and geoff.

______________________________________
OPPOSE BILL C-51! REJECT FEAR

Bill C-51 is a reckless, far-reaching dangerous law that will:
- Increase surveillance, disruption and targeting of activists

- Criminalize activist actions like blockades and civil
disobedience by expanding the definition of terrorism.

- Expand the use of secret evidence and no-fly lists. Secret evidence and
laws are already being to used to deport migrants, on terrorism related
grounds without charge

- Essentially create a Secret Police with no accountability
or oversight, worsening the over-criminalization and
over-imprisonment of Indigenous and Black communities

- Chill free speech by criminalizing discussions on dissent.

- Increase detention without access to a lawyer. Many
migrants are already jailed for over 10 years without
charges or trial.

Bill C-51 intensifies the ‘security’ attack on Muslims, non-status people,
Indigenous land defenders, people of colour communities and activists, and
extends this intimidation to even more people.

We must reject Bill C-51 and support the communities
most vulnerable to policing and surveillance.

*Cross-Canada Day of Action: No 4 and 4! Immigration Not Deportation!*
The Harper Cons plan to uproot migrant workers that have lived, worked and
formed relationships in Canada for over four years. So, on March 29th, join
at Citizenship and Immigration Canada headquarters to seed justice. We will
be planting small seedlings that you will be able to take home. Bring your
friends and family for this community action to seed justice.

Between *March 29 and April 1, 2015* take actions to oppose the 4 and 4
rule against low-waged Temporary Foreign Workers and Live-In Caregivers
expected to come in to effect on April 1st. Refuse a revolving door
immigration system and call for full immigration status for all.

* *Toronto: March 29, 2pm at Citizenship and Immigration Canada
headquarters*
*(**55 St. Clair E. St. Clair and Yonge – St. Clair subway station)* /
*RSVP *on*facebook <https://www.facebook.com/events/919143408106323/>.*
* *Actions are also planned in Edmonton, Guelph, Hamilton and Okanagan
valley and Peterborough*. Details at* www.no4and4.tumblr.com
<http://www.no4and4.tumblr.com/>*

As of April 1, 2015, all migrant workers in Canada in low-waged jobs and on
Temporary Foreign Worker or Live-In Caregiver permits will be barred from
working in the country for more than four years. All those that have been
in Canada more than that time will face mass deportation. They will also be
banned from returning to work in Canada for four years. Those that choose
to stay will become undocumented.

These changes are effectively a mass deportation. These rules will tear
apart families, friends and communities across the country. Migrant workers
pay tens of thousands of dollars to come to Canada and work at minimum wage
jobs to provide an opportunity for their family; so that their children can
go to school; and to have a better life. The 4 & 4 rule strips away migrant
workers’ dignity, forces workers already in precarity into further
uncertainty, and imposes discriminatory and arbitrary barriers on how long
workers can stay here.

That these migrants have worked in Canada for four years proves that their
jobs are permanent, not temporary. These friends and community members
deserve permanent residence, not deportation. This 4 and 4 rule entrenches
a revolving door immigration policy, employers can simply replace current
with new workers.

*11. Delegation to City Shelter Administration! Defend 124 Shelter Beds!*

*HOPE SHELTER CLOSING TAKES AWAY 124 BADLY NEEDED BEDS FOR HOMELESS FOLKS!*

*Delegation to City Shelter Administration, Metro Hall, King and
John, Monday, March 30, 1.00 PM *

The central part of Toronto is facing sweeping gentrification. As condo
towers go up, low income tenants and homeless people are being driven out.
The plan is to remove hundreds of homeless by moving the shelters to
outlying parts of the City.

On March 31, everyone in the 124 bed Hope Shelter at College and McCaul
will have to leave. There is no indication that a replacement facility will
be ready and, when one is found, just where it will be located. Even if
housing is found for some of those in the place, the loss of these beds
will mean hardship for hundreds of others who need shelter in the months
ahead.

Please come out and support our delegation to the City as we demand the
opening of bed spaces in the same area of the City and show that the social
cleansing agenda of the developers and politicians will be resisted.

Our first women's round table to discuss gendered violence on campus was a
success. We wish to open up the dialogue to include men in our next
roundtable to strategize how we can begin moving forward to eradicate all
forms of violence occurring at York University.

While our organizing at this time is centred around violence occurring at
York - we welcome students/faculty/staff from other universities to also
attend as we recognize this issue is not isolated.

<https://www.facebook.com/WomenatthecentrE> is not an accessible space - it
is on the third floor with no elevator, if this is a problem please let us
know and we can attempt to find an accommodating space.
***Please note that if the strike ends - the meeting time and location will
need to be changed.

*13. Growing Our Own Food: A Garden Resource Network*

*BE PART OF CREATING THE GARDEN RESOURCE NETWORK*

An exciting collaboration is underway to create a GARDEN RESOURCE NETWORK
in the Jane-Finch neighbourhood.

This network would support families, schools, individuals, community
organizations and businesses in growing their own healthy and local food.

It's better for the planet.
It's better for your pocket.
It's a way to bring the community together.

The network would ideally provide:
tools, seeds, compost and hand on workshops to all it's members
... but to make that happen, we need YOU!

Join us on *March 31st at Yorkwoods Public Library at 5:30 pm* for snacks
and a big community conversation to formalize the goals, and official
structure of The Network. Come ready to share your ideas, meet fellow
gardeners or want to be gardeners

All are welcome (including interested partners, beginner gardeners,
children and more!). Please forward to those you think would be interested!
