At this meeting, the Bargaining Team
<http://3903.cupe.ca/bargaining/bargaining-team/> will present the final
offer from the Employer. After a period of discussion, members will vote by
secret ballot on a recommendation to our Executive Committee
<http://3903.cupe.ca/about/executive-committee/> about whether to accept or
reject the offer.
Documents with details of the recommendation of the Executive Committee
will be available online before the meeting begins.
Food and refreshments will be provided. For a childcare / elder care
subsidy, please email sectreasurer3903 at gmail.com.
Agenda:
*4:00 p.m.* Doors open
*4:30 p.m.* Dinner (free catered buffet, including vegetarian, vegan and
gluten-free options)
*5:30 p.m.* Presentation by the Bargaining Team of the Employer’s final
offer
*6:30 p.m.* Discussion and questions for the Bargaining Team / voting begins
*8:00 p.m.* Discussion ends / Call for scrutineers (12)
*8:10 p.m.* 20-minute break
*8:30 p.m.* Voting ends *
* This is the three-hour mark of the meeting. The agenda may not exceed
three hours, according to the bylaws
<http://3903.cupe.ca/files/2012/01/3903-bylaws-12-03-20131.pdf>, and so no
further items may be scheduled at this point. However, the Executive
Committee will move a motion by 8:30 p.m. to extend the meeting by one hour
in order to finish counting ballots, to announce the Executive Committee’s
decision, and to discuss next steps.
Voting by secret ballot will begin at 6:30 p.m. and continue until 8:30
p.m. The ballots will be counted immediately after voting ends and the
results will be announced in the meeting. The Executive Committee will then
caucus briefly and announce its decision in the meeting.
Members are *not* obliged to attend the entire meeting in order to vote on
the Employer’s final offer, but we strongly encourage members to attend and
listen to the bargaining report before voting, if possible. Members may
vote anytime between 6:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m. Please bring a piece of ID.

*3) What if I'm teaching during the SGMM?*
The union has informed the Employer that our members will make use of the
provision in each of our collective agreements to excuse members from
teaching / work in order to attend meetings related to strike or
ratification votes. Article 15.09.3 in the U1 CA
<http://3903.cupe.ca/files/2012/03/77973-1_YorkU_CUPE3903-1.pdf>, 11.04.5
in U3 <http://3903.cupe.ca/files/2012/03/77975-1_YorkU_CUPE3903-3.pdf>, and
15.08.4 in U2
<http://3903.cupe.ca/files/2012/03/77974-1_YorkU_CUPE3903-2.pdf> state:
"Upon request, the Employer also agrees to make reasonable provisions that
will permit any member of CUPE 3903 to attend the Annual General Meeting of
CUPE 3903 or any meeting of the Local which deals with a strike vote or
ratification vote. It is understood that the Union will use its best
efforts to schedule these events at such times so as to cause minimal
disruption to classes. It is also understood that the employee will provide
as much notice as is both reasonable and practicable."
Members who wish to attend the meeting in its entirety or to take a break
from teaching / work to vote may do so. Please share this message
throughout the union to help maximize the participation of all members.

*4) Strike FAQ*
The Strike FAQ
<http://3903.cupe.ca/2015/02/25/strike-faq-for-cupe-3903-members/> is a
must-read resource for members that continues to be updated online. The FAQ
includes:
What does ‘being on strike’ actually mean in the context of a university?
What happens if we go on strike on Tuesday March 3? What do I do? Where do
I go?
After the first day of the strike, where is my department’s picket line?
How long are picket line shifts?
Who is eligible to receive strike pay?
How much is strike pay? How many hours of strike duties are required in
order to receive strike pay?
What strike duties can I perform to receive strike pay?
What about our health benefits?
Can I communicate with my students during a strike?
Can I come on campus to do my lab research?
Can I use the library?
Read the FAQ here
<http://3903.cupe.ca/2015/02/25/strike-faq-for-cupe-3903-members/>. Please
share widely.

*5) If we strike, where do I picket?*
Check out our list of departmental picket locations
<http://3903.cupe.ca/departmental-picket-locations/>. And remember, the
longer the picket line, the shorter the strike! If we do go on strike, we
need to show the admin that we’re serious and mobilized. That’s the only
way we will get a fair contract.
A normal picket line shift is four hours long. We will start with two
shifts per day, a morning shift (7:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.) and an afternoon
shift (11:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.). Please arrive before your scheduled start
time and dress appropriately for the weather conditions.

Membership Meeting, in order to prepare for a possible strike.
The location of the headquarters is 45 Four Winds Drive, Unit D. Find it on
a map here <https://goo.gl/maps/o4O77>.

*8) CUPE 3902 on strike at U of T*
"After a crowded and raucous meeting in Convocation Hall, 1,000 members of
Unit 1 decisively rejected a motion to send the tentative agreement reached
on February 27 to a ratification vote.
"The CUPE 3902 <http://cupe3902.org/> Executive Committee has authorized
the commencement of strike action by Unit 1 members, effective immediately.
Unit 1 members should cease all bargaining unit work, effective
immediately. Unit 1 members will be contacted by your Picket Captains this
