JUNE 8
NATIONAL DAY OF ACTION TO SUPPORT SEX WORKERS
Attention Friends, Sex Workers, Hustlers and Allies! This is a call out for
action and attitude!
Toronto:
Come out and show your solidarity for SEX WORKERS RIGHTS!
Meet at us at 1:30 Saturday afternoon at Moss Park at Queen and Sherbourne
Together we will march to Allen Gardens Park for 3pm for food, performances
and community building!
Bring a red umbrella; the symbol of the global sex workers' rights
movement. Dress up, wear a sexy costume, or wear red.
Media camera crews are expected.
Together we will be taking to the streets to celebrate June 8th 2013 as a
National Day of Action to support the sex work community and demand FULL
decriminalization. Sex workers, sex worker-led organizations and our allies
from across Canada will be taking to the street to march and be heard. We
want you to join Maggie's, Support Decrim Organizing Comittee and other sex
workers in Toronto and surrounding areas in this historical moment for sex
workers rights, dignity and the fight against criminalization. *

(3) Submit a Pitch for Action Speaks Louder
==============================
Action Speaks Louder is the bi-annual newsletter of OPIRG-Toronto. We are
looking for articles for our Fall 2013 issue, and we invite you to submit a
pitch on any issue of social and/or environmental justice, on a political
issue on campus or about campaigns you're involved in.
Pitches are 100-150 words and are meant to give us an idea of what the
article will focus on and how it fits within the realm of campus or
community organizing. Previous issues of Action Speaks Louder have explored
such issues as indigenous solidarity, police brutality, prison expansion
and anti-austerity campaigns. We work with authors through different drafts
to develop the article, with input from our editorial collective.
The pitch submission deadline for the fall issue is EXTENDED to Wednesday
June 12th.
Please send all pitches by e-mail to actionspeaksloudertoronto at gmail.com.
Check out our last issue to get an idea of what we publish! Winter 2013
newsletters are available outside the OPIRG-Toronto office at 563 Spadina
Crescent, room 101. If you are interested in getting involved in the
Newsletter collective, and assisting with soliciting articles, editing and
layout, please e-mail us at opirg.toronto at gmail.com.

*(5) **Disorientation 2013 Callout for Activity Proposals *
*
*
*==============================*
*DEADLINE FOR DISORIENTATION 2013 ACTIVITY PROPOSALS: JUNE 14 *
The University of Toronto Student’s Union (UTSU) and OPIRG Toronto have
begun to organize for the next Disorientation week, scheduled for September
2013. Disorientation is an alternative orientation week that aims to
introduce students and community members to different campaigns and
projects on campus and in the community. Disorientation Week usually
includes public forums, skills based workshops and panels on various
political issues. The organizers of Disorientation Week select a theme each
year that reflects current community or campus based organizing efforts.
Last year's Disorientation Week focused the impact of austerity and city
cuts in Toronto.
*Submit a Proposal!*
But wait! We also want to know your thoughts and hear your proposals for
content for Disorientation! Are you a part of a community organization,
campus group or collective of people interested in educating people about a
specific campaign or issue? Do you want to organize a panel? Plan a
workshop? Let us know and we can try and fit it into the schedule. E-mail
disotoronto at gmail.com for the proposal form and/or more details.
Process for Approval:
1) Organization/Person submits completed proposal form to
disotoronto at gmail.com or to the OPIRG office.
2) The Disorientation committee will review the application and will
contact the organization/individual with any
questions/concerns/clarifications.
3) Depending on the schedule of the week, the number of proposals and the
relevance of the proposed activity to Disorientation and/or the theme of
the week, the committee will make a decision and contact the
individual/organization.
4) If the proposal is approved, the organization/applicant will be asked to
appoint at least 2 contact people working on the event to be in
correspondence with the Disorientation committee.
* As both OPIRG and UTSU have their own ideas and priorities for
Disorientation week, please be aware that there are a limited number of
spots for proposals. We may not be able to accommodate all proposals within
our schedule, even if they fit within our mandate. Preference will go to
proposals that fit within the themes and priorities that have been
identified by the committee for this year’s Disorientation, or to content
that has not be featured at Disorientation in previous years*

Trans March Toronto 2013
What's the Route & Timing?
We assemble @ George Hislop Park on Friday June 28th, 2013 at 7:30 (It
would be helpful if volunteers could get there a little earlier)
The march starts at 8pm and leaves from the North end of the park at
Charles street, then goes West to Yonge Street. Then down Yonge St to
Carlton/College at which point we go East to Allan Gardens.
Google Our Route Map Here: http://goo.gl/maps/bpsu1
What's the Theme... What should I wear?
The focus of the march is "Celebration, Commemoration, Demonstration by and
for the Trans Community". Our honored trans person is Kyle Scanlon and our
honored trans group is "The Fallen" ... People who cannot march but who
will be marching with us in spirit (Please feel free to bring pictures or
other symbols of these honored people to carry with us in the march)
Our march colour is lavender (anything in the purple range is fine) Dress
any way you like but we encourage marchers to consider this colour when
making fashion choices for the march. Why lavender? It is symbolic of the
blend of the two gender binary colours of pink & blue.
Who is Invited?
We invite EVERYONE to march with us in solidarity - For us "Trans" is an
umbrella term to include ALL who are gender-gifted. We honor ALL
expressions of gender-difference.
Allies are WELCOME !! - Your attendance signifies your moral support of
your brothers, sisters and cousins. Furthermore, it signifies that you are
ready to stand alongside us in our struggle for equal rights.
How Can I help?
INVITE EVERYONE YOU KNOW - Seriously EVERYONE - The love you show by
engaging in this march is felt by trans people all over the world. (We
regularly get emails from people in other countries who see this event
online and get strength & hope from your actions)
Engage in group discussions here:
https://www.facebook.com/groups/trans.march.toronto
Twitter Here: @TransMarchTO , Hashtag #transTO
Is the march legal?
YES - We have served our "Notice to Demonstrate" with the Toronto Police
Services, Special Events Planning Offices. This means that Police Services,
EMS, Fire Services and the TTC are now fully appraised of our plans and a
liaison has been established to coordinate directly and exclusively with us.
Is George Hislop Park Fully Accessible?
Yes: Pictures and more details can be found here
https://plus.google.com/103470685099719654247/about
What if I'm uncomfortable marching?
We are doing everything we can to create a march that is accessible and
welcoming - But for a variety of reasons, some people may not be able to
make it for the march. Don't worry, you can still participate by assembling
at Allan Gardens to welcome march as it arrives.
