*Defend OCAP's Shelter at City Hall! City plans to evict at 9:30pm!*

OCAP has opened a shelter at City Hall and we need your help to defend the
space we've taken. We are being told that they will try to clear us out by
9:30pm. We need large numbers if we are going to keep this shelter open!

Bring food, drinks and any other supplies you may have. Spread the word!
No more homeless deaths!

Background:

At noon today, OCAP set up a homeless shelter in Toronto City Hall. A
large number of homeless people and allies have brought sleeping bags,
blankets and basic supplies into the building and created a vitally needed
place of safety for those unable to obtain beds within the City's shelter
system.

We are demanding that the City stop lying about the situation and
pretending that there are enough beds to meet the needs that exist. Lives
have been lost because the shelters are full, many more are at risk and
OCAP is taking the necessary action to challenge this appalling neglect.
We are taking the position that the shelter we have set up will stay where
it is until the City creates an adequate alternative. We are calling on
all members of Council to come and meet with us and for an emergency
session of Council to be convened to deal with the crisis on the streets
of Toronto.

We need your immediate support and solidarity. If you can, come to City
Hall immediately to stand with us and protect the shelter. Please bring
food supplies, blankets and any other items you think residents of the
OCAP shelter might need. Please call, email or tweet the Mayor or your
local member or Council and tell them to meet with us and resolve the
crisis that has forced us to take this action.

Thirty four homeless died last year and six have perished so far this
year. We must act to ensure the basic need to shelter is met. Please act
immediately to support us.
