Temporary Position at OPIRG York
*Resource Centre and Archival Assistant*
OPIRG York is hiring for a part-time, temporary position for a three
month period. This position is to assist the Coordinator of
Administration and Information with archiving historical OPIRG materials
in the resource centre and assisting the restructuring of the resource
centre. OPIRG York is reorganizing the resource centre to become the
/OPIRG York Alternative Resource Centre/ with alternative and radical
materials for York students and community. We hope to update our
centre’s resources and update our lending system in order to have an
official launch this September 2011.
*Applicants DO NOT have to be students to apply for this position. This
position is open to everyone. *
*Duties:*
· Organizing past OPIRG documents and archiving appropriate materials
· Assisting with the re-organization and updating of the resource
centre. This includes: updating the resource library, ordering new
materials and creating a lending system
· Attending OPIRG York Alternative Resource Centre committee meetings
· Update the lending system for OPIRG York (preferably as an online system)
· Assist with creating promotional materials fo resource centre
including creating content for website, pamphlets and posters
· Update lender database
· Liaise with independent bookstores and publishers to build resource
centre materials
*Skill requirements:*
· Diverse knowledge of alternative and independent publishers and
publications
· Good organizing and coordination skills
· Able to work independently
· Knowledge of computer database systems a plus
· Knowledge of anti-oppression concepts
· Knowledge of consensus decision-making
*Renumeration: *$15.00/hour at 20 hours a week

anti-oppressive lens.

The /YU Free Press/ is now accepting submissions for our first issue of
the 2011-2012 academic year, "*Dis/orientation*". Each year /Ontario
Public Interest Research Group/ (OPIRG-York) in collaboration with other
radical groups on campus creates * Dis/orientation* - a
multidisciplinary politicizing alternative to frosh week in which York
students, new and old, can discuss issues of social justice,
anti-oppression, anti-colonialism, gender, racism and accessibility. As
a participant group of *Dis/orientation*, we are excited to explore in
this issue themes of student mobilization and community accountability
at York around:
-History of the land York occupies
-Gender-based violence on campus
-Tuition fees and accessible education
-Health and safety on campus
-Vari Hall (student activism vs. administration oppression)
-Free speech on campus
-LGBT/TBLGAY issues on campus
-Accessibility at York University
-Working conditions of the food service and sanitary workers on campus
-Issues facing international students (status, health insurance,
housing, etc)
-Campus unions - CUPE3903, YUSA, YUFA, CUPE 1356
-Campus groups - Aboriginal Students Association at York, (ASAY) Centre
for Women and Trans People (CWTP), CHRY Community Radio, Feminist
Action, Filipino Student Association at York (FSAY), South Asian
Alliance (SAA), Students Against Israeli Apartheid (SAIA), Students for
Free Tibet (SFT), Trans Bisexual Lesbian Gay (TBLGay), Undergraduate
Sexuality Studies Association, York United Black Students' Alliance
(YUBSA) (or any others we may have missed!)
These are just some of the themes we would like to cover for this issue,
but we welcome submissions on a variety of topics concerned with any
other social justice matter on campus. The submission deadline will be
