York University G20 Legal Defence Meeting Call Out
Tuesday, July 20th at 3:00 PM
Location: N306 Ross building.

During the G20 demonstrations, we experienced a massive crackdown on
political dissent, even as world leaders wined, dined and pledged to
force ever harsher austerity measures upon us - all safely behind the
fence that blockaded much of the downtown. Almost 1100 people were
arrested, and more than 200 are still facing charges, including
workers and students at York University. 17 people are facing very
serious charges; these are committed community organizers and
activists whom many of us know, love and respect. The legal costs for
the 17 alone are conservatively estimated to be well over $200,000.
The legal costs for all the arrestees will be substantially higher.

We are calling upon York faculty, students, staff and community
members to join us for a meeting to organize both financial support
for the legal costs of those targeted by police and a broader
political response to the repression of political participation and
organizing.
