IRELAND: Pickets, blockades and direct action target Shell and Statoil over Rossport Five
Fascist judge indefinitely detains resisters for thinking for themselves instead of uncritically obeying dikkktats
"Meanwhile, continuing protests back in Mayo have insured that Shell isn't getting any work done on its terminal or its pipeline. The message is getting across to the public, as the Rossport Five draw on a long Irish tradition of jailed resisters to imperial power. Ó Seighin tapped straight into that tradition and threw in some class consciousness when he cited the support they're getting from their "ordinary" fellow prisoners in Cloverhill Jail: "They have a tremendous, very accurate sense of right and wrong that is slightly missing in more exalted society." (Counterpunch)
Shell stations are shut down as direct action spreads, and work on the pipeline is halted by protests

1,000 farmers protest at milk price cut
Thursday, April 14 06:23:53
More than 1,000 farmers have protested outside Glanbia's head office in Kilkenny against an 4c a gallon cut in milk prices imposed by the company. They claimed that the price cut will mean an unacceptable cut in their incomes. Addressing the demonstration, IFA leader John Dillon claimed that farmers were being used to subsidise Glanbia's share price. The price cut had been followed by a 7c rise in the Glanbia share price, he said. Mr Dillon said that Glanbia had now reduced prices by 18c over the past four years, cutting farmers' incomes by 40pc. The latest 4c price cut would reduce the income of a 60,000 gallon dairy farmers by 12pc, he said. He said that the dairy industry would have no future if companies in the sector continued to make such cuts. The industry could not survive without viable farmers, he warned. Mr Dillon urged milk processors should be improving efficiency instead of cutting their prices to farmers.

The Truth Behind the Tube "Strike" (Saturday23 July)
Radio phone in's were united in their condemnation. "Cowards" was one of the more emotive words used, to the reports that tube drivers had refused to work following the second attempt to carry out suicide bombings on the London transport network.
The truth, as sheepishly revealed in The Sun on 23 July, was that drivers had refused to work in disgust at the fact that the day after the second bombings, armed police put a gun to the head of a tube driver at Stockwell station, who had run down the tunnel after police had shot a suspect five times on his train.
Bob Crow commented on the RMT website:
"No apology could ever be enough ever take away the trauma that that driver has suffered and there should be a full inquiry into the handling of the incident,"

Greenpeace blockades British ministry in PNG timber protest
Posted at 01:33 on 20 October, 2005 UTC
The campaign group Greenpeace has dumped a tonne of Papua New Guinea plywood outside the headquarters of the British ministry for the environment in London. Greenpeace says the timber was logged illegally in Papua New Guinea, turned into plywood in China, and was being used on British building sites. It says illegally logged timber from Rimbunan Hijau, and other companies, can be found as plywood at Wolseley Build Centres and other builders' merchants throughout Britain. Volunteers used a crane to place over a tonne of plywood - secured with large chains - right outside the door of the Department for Environment in London. Campaigners chained themselves to the timber, but police used boltcutters to remove the two activists, and they were released without charge.

PRESS RELEASE:
ACTIVISTS OCCUPY PLYMOUTH ISLAND IN NUCLEAR WEAPONS PROTEST.
Friday 13th May 2005
16.00pm
Twelve Trident Ploughshares activists have landed on Drakes Island in the
River Tamar today close to Devonport Dockyard in Plymouth which is used to
refit Trident, the UK's illegal nuclear weapons system.
The occupation of Drakes Island takes place at the same time as the NPT
Review Conference in New York, where the UK delegation is coming under increasing
diplomatic pressure to honour disarmament commitments made in 2000. The
Island occupation will highlight the hypocrisy of the UK's position on nuclear
weapons.
At the last NPT Review Conference in 2000, the UK, as a nuclear-weapons
state, made a series of commitments, including, "An unequivocal undertaking [by
the nuclear-weapon States] to accomplish the total elimination of their
nuclear arsenals leading to nuclear disarmament to which all States parties are
committed under Article VI"
Despite commitments to disarm, and a recent unsolicited attack on Iraq who
it accused of trying to develop nuclear weapons the UK government is
currently upgrading its nuclear weapons factory, AWE at Aldermaston with development
of facilities for the manufacture of the next generation of nuclear weapons
already underway.
The Island occupation is the start of two weeks of protest in Plymouth by
local people who are joined by national and international nuclear weapons
protesters commited to seeing Plymouth and the UK free of nuclear weapons.
A carnival and blockade will be held outside Devonport Dockyard on Friday
20th May and a camp site is organised in Plymouth for protesters from Thursday
19th to Sunday 22nd May.

Safety fears end milk price protest
Farmers demonstrating outside milk depots finished their blockades early as they claimed lorry drivers were jeopardising their safety. Members of the group Farmers For Action staged the protest outside Robert Wiseman's depots in Cambuslang and Bellshill to highlight their concerns over milk prices. Bosses at Robert Wiseman's said police were marshalling the demonstrations and insisted there was no danger. About 180 farmers gathered outside the two plants and at the Arla Food depot in Coatbridge, Lanarkshire, to try to halt milk deliveries. But Farmers For Action spokesman John Cumming said the action was called off because he feared someone could be hurt by lorries going through their picket lines. A spokesman for the dairy firm said: "There were protests at our facilities but we met our obligations to staff and to our customers. "The police were very much in control of the situation. As far as we're concerned, there was no danger." The farmers were protesting over the price they are paid for their milk. The National Farmers Union says they receive between 16p and 20p per lire, which it claims is less than 10 years ago. They are being backed by the Scottish Green Party, which is urging First Minister Jack McConnell to take urgent action to help the farmers. Shiona Baird MSP, party co-convener and a former farmer, said: "What will it take for the Labour-Lib Dem coalition to take action to support the Scottish dairy farmers? Will they wait until the industry is totally decimated and we have to import our milk?" But Mr McConnell said at First Minister's Questions on Wednesday that it was a matter for the supermarkets, not the Executive.
