While the Government of Canada or the Harper Government or the Christian Right Government of Canada or whatever it is presently called says that the crime rate in Canada is declining, they are faced with the problem of wanting to build more prisons, hopefully privatized, that will need to be filled. They have, therefore, in an attempt to keep prisons full, decided to pass a law that says that people cannot get early parole and will have to remain in prison for the entire length of their sentence. This will mean that those presently in jail will not be released to halfway houses when they had previously hoped to be released. Roger Clement was hoping to be released to a halfway house in July, but it would seem that this is not going to happen now that the new "tough on crime" legislation has been passed.

Subject: [Omd] a request from roger
He wondered if someone could draft up an email to go out to email recipients of OMD. In regards to the change for parole. He had sent out letters to various people and doesn't want to have to rewrite letters again to all of them.
Also, can someone add emi to the list? She mentioned she's not getting those emails anymore.
Thank you,Joeli
