What causes and political situations affect you in the first person? What causes do you lend your support to in the third person? How does your participation differ between the two and why? Positionality plays into protesting. If you are protesting about something that does not actually affect you directly, you may be able to take a more moderate, patient approach. This actually explains an often encountered consternation within many political movements. People protesting in the here and now, in first person, often have immediate grievances and often employ tactics quite different than those lending support from the periphery.
