The Day of the Dead season (Oct. 31- Nov. 2) is dedicated to souls that have passed onto the "other side." The celebrations begin the last days of October, with ritual cleaning of gravesites and the building of altars to the Dead. The Day of the Dead has Mexican origins and families throughout Mexico gather, throwing parties with loud music and food, around relatives' and loved ones' graves, sometimes all night long, between Oct. 31 and Nov. 2.
