Oppression is real and the oppressed do not cause or deserve it. I am in no way denying the very real forces of poverty, racism, sexism, etc. Those things exist and they beat one down, for sure. I, personally, cannot stop poverty, racism, sexism, etc. (although I can maintain a stable front against those forces), but I *can* control my *reactions* to those forces wearing on me. People can hate me, but I will not allow them to make me hate *myself* and that is a profound statement.
