Jonathan Spencer is Professor of the Anthropology of South Asia at the University of Edinburgh. He has written "A Sinhala Village in a Time of Trouble: Politics and Change in Rural Sri Lanka" and "Sri Lanka: History and the Roots of Conflict". (Montreal's CKUT community radio) spoke with him in September of 2006 about the roots of the conflict in Sri Lanka.
