I am convinced that cognitive dissonance explains a whole lot of human  
behavior. I might even buy it as a central component of a meta theory of  
human history. Examples: What is a conservative? Answer: A Liberal that has  
been mugged. What is a Liberal? Answer: A Conservative that has been  
outsourced or downsized.
