In a surprise last-minute decision, Citizenship and Immigration Canada decided to cancel the deportation of Ali Reza Monemi scheduled for Tuesday. Supporters rallied outside CIC offices at 5 PM Monday afternoon and called it an important victory for refugee rights in Canada. CIC has been increasingly hostile to legitimate refugee claimants in the last few years.
