The property known as 1495 Queen St. West/194 Dowling Ave. was a notorious rooming house for many years. Then on September 16 1998 a fire broke out and two tenants perished immediately and another two tenants died subsequently due to complications from the fire. From September 1998 to now the building sat derelict and boarded up with no intervention by the landlord to reduce any further deterioration of the structure, improve the tragic memory of the fire or even keep it secure from vandals.
