[news] Winnipeg: IATSE Pickets Scabbing Firefighters

On the day that Winnipeg's prodigal son, Neil Young, was to perform at the MTS Centre with Crosby, Stills, and Nash, International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees (IATSE) were protesting against scabbing firefighters at the MTS Centre in front of Winnipeg's Fire/Paramedic Station No.8, located at 640 Kimberley Avenue in East Kildonan.

Barney Haines, spokesperson for IATSE said he takes issue with full-time Winnipeg firefighters being trained by the city of Winnipeg, then using their acquired skills for an anti union firm at the MTS Centre. Barney Haines said the firefighters union (United Fire Fighters of Winnipeg-UFFW) took a position in 2004 against its union members taking work at the MTS. He wants the Fire Fighters union (UFFW) to hold members to that stand.
