A group of researchers have for the first time succeeded in reconstructing the structure of the Human Immune Deficiency Virus (HIV), the causal agent of AIDS, a disease that affects more than 40 million people in the world.

According to a research published in Structure science magazine, hundreds of images of 70 individual viruses from different angles were necessary to achieve the new three-dimensional map revealing the pathogenic morphology.
