Morning-after pill

[Ron's introduction]:

Although women in Canada have been able to get the morning-after pill (essentially a concentrated version of the regular birth control pill) over the counter without a prescription for some time, women in the US have been blocked from doing so. The safety of the drug has not been the primary factor in blocking women's access to it. Instead, it has been the powerful lobby of religious zealots that have kept women from determining what they can do with their own bodies.

Finally, *some* progress has been made which will allow women over 17 to purchase the pill from a pharmacy without a prescription. Women, 17 or under, will still need a prescription. The US has one of the highest teen pregnancy rates in the Western world.
