On May 11, 2005, Pablo Paredes, a U.S. Navy Petty Officer, 3rd Class, will face very serious charges, including a court martial, from the U.S government for refusing to fight in the Iraq war. In Dec. 2004, Pablo refused to board a Navy ship as it left San Diego, Ca., becoming the first Navy personnel to openly refuse to cooperate with the U.S. military actions in Iraq. Pablo tried to submit a conscientious objector (CO) file, but the file was dismissed as not meeting proper criteria, leaving Pablo inevitably vulnerable to prosecution. I interviewed Pablo by email on May 6, 2005.
