About a month ago, I wrote an article about how the Tahltan elders were occupying the office of the Indian Act Cheif, Jerry Asp over his conflict of interest in handing over the resouces of the band to a company he directs as well as to other oil and mining multi-nationals. The elders were passionate about defending their traditional lands against those that would sell them off to the highest bidder for the sake of profit. I was skeptical when sent a press release from the Asp camp stating that the issues had been resolved with the support of the elders. Today, the situation has been clarified as the elders have sent out their own relase stating that they are indeed continuing the occupation, and that this "Elders Gathering" was scheduled during a mourning period when they would not be able to attend and did not have their support. Both press releases follow.
