The Pew Charitable Trust, which claims to "serve... the public interest", came into existence through money from the family of Sun Oil Company founder Joseph N. Pew. While posing as a grassroots activist-type organization, it's been involved in funding, subverting, and dulling mainstream environmental groups like the World Wildlife Fund (WWF), the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society (CPAWS), and the Canadian Boreal Initiative (CBI).
