YELLOWKNIFE - MLAs in the Northwest Territories reacted angrily to news the Minister of Indian Affairs Andy Scott ignored Northern candidates when he appointed non-resident Todd Burlingame as the new chair of the Mackenzie Valley Land and Water Board. Under the rules set out for appointing the chair Scott was supposed to choose from among the three candidates nominated by the board. Instead he chose Burlingame and MLAs say that smacks of the old days when the North was run by Ottawa bureaucrats who felt they knew best.
