The Gaza Mono-Logues is an exciting global project initiated by Iman 
Aoun,Artistic Director of Ashtar Theatre, Palestine’s first theatre 
trainingorganization for youth. The impulse for the project emerged from the 
attackon the Gaza Strip, December 2008 to January 2009, which led to the 
death of431 children and wounded another 1,872. In 2009 Ashtar Theatre, with 
thehelp of UNICEF, began conducting drama therapy and creative 
writingworkshops with youth directly affected by the attacks. By focusing on 
theseyouths’ individual experiences, their dreams, fears, and hopes, 
AshtarTheatre compiled a body of work that led to the birth of The 
GazaMono-Logues.
The monologues will be performed by local youth between the ages of 14 
and16!
Ashtar Theatre has organized recitals of the The Gaza Mono-Logues in 
30cities worldwide, in multiple languages, all on the same day: October 
17,2010. Vancouver is the only Canadian city hosting the global project.
