Dear Friend,
I thought you might be interested in this United Farm Workers
e-activism campaign.
A Delano-area table grape grower will pay 500 harvesters $1.7
million to settle a federal class action lawsuit arising out of
United Farm Workers organizing efforts. The suit charged the
employer, Kovacevich "5" Farms, with forcing workers to labor
without being paid a half hour a day between 2000 and 2003.
As the UFW celebrates this important victory, we are asking you
to help other grape workers suffering from the same
mistreatment. Contact the California state Labor Commissioner.
Tell the commissioner to investigate and take action against
other growers who are also breaking the law. Kovacevich is not
an isolated case. Violations of state and federal minimum wage
and hour laws alleged in the lawsuit are common in the table
grape industry.
Take action today and help protect other vineyard workers who
suffer from this common abuse. E-mail California's Labor
Commissioner, Donna Dell, today! Go to:
