| Dear Friends,
|
| May please take a moment of your time to tell you about a project that is
| dear to my heart?  Some of you may know that the City of Vancouver has
| agreed to Sponsor the World Peace Forum 2006 and after months of effort
the
| project is now starting to gain momentum.
|
| The World Peace Forum will foster a culture of peace world-wide by
| strengthening city and social alliances in order to build a just, peaceful
| and sustainable world.
|
| Held here in Vancouver from June 23 - 28, 2006, the forum will bring city
| leaders from around the world together with people active on the issues of
| peace, justice and sustainability to build networks and develop education
| strategies.
|
| This is a major undertaking which requires all our support.  Together we
can
| effectively face global militarism and curtail ballooning military budgets
| which starve local governments of the resources necessary to provide our
| citizens quality housing, health, education and community services.
|
| The forum will bring people together to create:
|
| connections between city and peace, justice and sustainability advocates.
| plans for peace, social inclusion and respect for diversity
| bridges to the next generation by those touched by war
| peaceful ways to end violence against women through women leaders
| remedies for indigenous peoples as defenders of the Earth
|
| The biggest part of our budget is to bring economically disadvantage
social
| leaders from around the world to participate.  These people will learn and
| share success stories to support their communities in making a more
| sustainable, just, and peaceful world.
|
